The Coris district is located in the Aija province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on February 10, 1922. It has an area of ​​259 km². The 2017 census counted 1719 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1945, in 2007 it was 2121. The district administration is located in the 2890  m high village of Coris with 417 inhabitants (as of 2017). Coris is located 13 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Aija .

Geographical location

The district of Coris is located in the west of the Cordillera Negra in the far west of the province of Aija. The Río Aija, upper reaches of the Río Huarmey , flows along the southern district boundary to the west.

The Coris district borders in the southeast on the district Huayán , in the southwest on the districts Huarmey and Culebras (all three of the above mentioned districts are in the province Huarmey ), in the north on the districts Huanchay and La Liberted (both in the province Huaraz ) and in the east to the districts of La Merced , Aija , Huacclán and Succha .
