The Malvas district is located in the Huarmey province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on February 10, 1892. It has an area of 168 km². The 2017 census counted 804 residents. In 1993 the population was 1322, in 2007 it was 1045. The district administration is located in the 3106 m high village of Malvas with 361 inhabitants (as of 2017). Malvas is located 55 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huarmey .
Geographical location
The Malvas District is located in the east of the Huarmey Province. The district is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Malvas crosses the district and then forms the southwestern district boundary. Its left tributary Río Quehuap runs along the southern district boundary to the west.
The Malvas district borders in the extreme southwest on the district Huarmey , in the north on the district Huayán , in the northeast on the districts Succha and Aija (both in the province Aija ), in the east on the district Cotaparaco ( province Recuay ) and in the south on the Cochapeti District .
