The Paramonga district is located in the Barranca province in the Lima region of western Peru . It was founded on November 23, 1976. The 414.08 km² district had 21,453 inhabitants at the 2017 census. In 1993 the population was 26,786, in 2007 24,009. The administrative seat is the city of Paramonga . The river Río Fortaleza flows through the district in a south-westerly direction and flows into the sea. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the lowlands. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs through the district. In the district is the archaeological site of Fortaleza de Paramonga .
Geographical location
The Paramonga district is located in the north of the Barranca province on the Pacific coast, almost 175 km north-northwest of the state capital Lima . The district has a coastline of 13 km. The district extends almost 50 km up the river valley of the Río Fortaleza inland. The Paramonga district is bordered by the Huarmey Province to the north, the Bolognesi Province to the northeast, the Ocros Province to the east and the Pativilca District to the south .
