The Ticapampa district is located in the Recuay province in the Ancash region in central western Peru . The district was founded on July 25, 1857. It has an area of ​​142.29 km². The 2017 census counted 2,462 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2788, in 2007 it was 2436. The administrative seat of the district is the 2556  m high town of Ticapampa with 1674 inhabitants (as of 2017). The glacial lake Laguna Querococha is located on the southeastern border of the district .

Geographical location

The Ticapampa district is in the north of the Recuay province. It comprises an approximately 4.5 km long section of the valley in the south of the high valley Callejón de Huaylas , through which the Río Santa flows in a northerly direction. The district extends about 22 km to the east to the Cordillera Blanca , which forms a partially glaciated section of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . To the west, the district extends about 9 km to the watershed of the Cordillera Negra .

The Ticapampa district lies between the Recuay district to the north and the Cátac district to the south . In the northeast, the Ticapampa district borders the Olleros ( Huaraz Province ) and Chavín de Huántar ( Huari Province ) districts. To the west, the Ticapampa district borders the Aija district ( Aija province ).
