The Huari Province is one of the 20 provinces that make up the Ancash administrative region in Peru . In 2017, 58,714 people lived in the 2771.9 km² area, which corresponds to a population density of 21 inhabitants per km². The administrative seat is in Huari .

Geographical location

The province of Huari extends over a large part of the catchment area of the Río Puchca , left tributary of the Río Marañón . The western provincial border of Huari forms an approximately 60 km long section of the Cordillera Blanca , a glaciated mountain ridge of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . In the east, the province extends to the upper reaches of the Río Marañón. In the northeast, the provincial border runs along the lower reaches of the Río Puchca. The province of Huari borders in the north with the provinces Asuncíon , Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald and Antonio Raymondi . In the west are the provinces of Carhuaz , Huaraz and Recuay , in the south the province of Bolognesi . In the southeast lies the province of Huamalíes , in the northeast the province of Huacaybamba , both in the administrative region of Huánuco .

Administrative division

The Huari Province consists of 16 districts ( distritos ). The Huari District is the seat of the provincial administration.
