The province of Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald is one of 20 provinces in the Ancash administrative region in Peru . The administrative seat of the province is San Luis . In 2017, 17,717 people lived in the 624.25 km² area. In 1993 the population was 21,026, in 2007 21,322. The province was named after the rubber baron Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald .

Geographical location

The province of Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald lies east of the Cordillera Blanca . It extends over the southern catchment area of the Río Yanamayo and extends in the east to the upper reaches of the Río Marañón . The province borders in the southeast with the province Antonio Raymondi , in the south with the province Huari , in the southwest with the province Asunción , in the west with the province Yungay and in the north with the province Mariscal Luzuriaga . To the east, across the Río Marañón, is the province of Huacaybamba , which belongs to the administrative region of Huánuco .
