The Huacaybamba Province is one of eleven provinces in the Huánuco region in central Peru . The province has an area of 1743.7 km². At the 2017 census, 16,551 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 17,719, in 2007 20,408. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Huacaybamba .
Geographical location
The Huacaybamba Province is located in the northwest of the Huánuco region. It extends over the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Marañón runs along the western provincial border . The province has a maximum longitudinal extent in WNW-OSE direction of 105 km. The Río Tasco Chico , a left tributary of the Río Monzón , flows through the eastern part of the province.
The province of Huacaybamba borders on the province of Marañón in the north, on the province of Leoncio Prado in the east, on the province of Huamalíes in the south and on the region of Ancash in the west .
Administrative division
The province of Huacaybamba is divided into four districts (distritos) . The Huacaybamba district is the seat of the provincial administration.
