The province of Yarowilca is one of eleven provinces in the Huánuco region in central Peru . The province has an area of 760 km². At the 2017 census, 19,897 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 32,972, in 2007 32,380. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Chavinillo .
Geographical location
The province of Yarowilca is located about 250 km north-northeast of the state capital Lima and 40 km west-northwest of the regional capital Huánuco . It lies on the western flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The upper reaches of the Río Marañón flows through the province in a northerly direction.
The province of Yarowilca borders in the west and north on the province Dos de Mayo , in the east on the province Huánuco and in the south on the province Lauricocha .
Administrative division
The province of Yarowilca is divided into eight districts (distritos) . The district of Chavinillo is the seat of the provincial administration.
