The Huánuco Province is one of eleven provinces in the Huánuco Region in central Peru . The province has an area of 4023 km². At the 2017 census, 293,397 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 223,339, in 2007 370,233. The provincial administration is located in the city of Huánuco .
Geographical location
The province of Huánuco is located about 245 km north-northeast of the state capital Lima . The province of Huánuco has a maximum longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction of about 95 km. It is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Huallaga crosses the province in a predominantly northeastern direction, cutting through the mountains.
The province of Huánuco borders in the northwest with the province Dos de Mayo , in the northeast with the province Leoncio Prado , in the southeast with the province Pachitea , in the south with the province Ambo , in the southwest with the province Lauricocha and in the west with the province Yarowilca .
Administrative division
The province of Huánuco is divided into 13 districts (distritos) . The Huánuco district is the seat of the provincial administration.
