The province of Puerto Inca is one of eleven provinces in the Huánuco region in central Peru . The province has an area of 9914 km². At the 2017 census, 32,538 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 32,405, in 2007 31,032. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Puerto Inca , which lies on the east bank of the Río Pachitea .
Geographical location
The province of Puerto Inca is located about 360 km northeast of the state capital Lima . It extends over the lower catchment area of the Río Pachitea. The west of the province is traversed by its tributaries Río Pozuzo and Río Sungarayacu . The province of Puerto Inca has a maximum longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction of about 190 km. The province extends in the southwest to the eastern flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . In the east runs the Sira Mountains , which are assigned to the Eastern Cordillera . In the northeast, the province extends to the confluence of the Río Pachitea in the Río Ucayali . The area belongs to the pre-Andean zone of the Amazon basin .
The province of Puerto Inca borders the province of Padre Abad to the north, the province of Coronel Portillo (both in the Ucayali region ) to the east, the province of Oxapampa ( Pasco region ) to the south, and the provinces of Pachitea and Leoncio Prado to the west .
Administrative division
The province of Puerto Inca is divided into five districts (Distritos) . The Puerto Inca district is the seat of the provincial administration.
