The Coronel Portillo Province is located in the Ucayali region in eastern Peru . The province has an area of 36,816 km². In the 2017 census, 384,168 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 333,890. The province was named after Pedro Portillo (1856-1916), Peruvian officer and politician. The administrative seat is the city of Pucallpa on the west bank of the Río Ucayali .
Geographical location
The Coronel Portillo province extends over the Amazon lowlands. It has a lengthwise extension in NNW-SSE direction of about 335 km. The province extends in the west to the Sira Mountains . The Río Ucayali flows through the west of the province in a northerly direction. In the east, the watershed forms the provincial and state border with the catchment area of the Rio Juruá further east .
The province of Coronel Portillo borders on Brazil to the east, the Atalaya province to the south, the Cusco and Huánuco regions to the west and the Padre Abad province and the Loreto region to the north .

The province of Coronel Portillo is divided into the following seven districts. The Callería district is the seat of the provincial administration.
