The Masisea District is located in the Coronel Portillo Province in the Ucayali region in east-central Peru . The district was founded on October 13, 1900. The Masisea District has an area of ​​14,708 km². The 2017 census counted 11,147 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 12,083, in 2007 11,651. The administrative seat of the district is the 156  m high small town Masisea with 2389 inhabitants (as of 2017). Masisea is not far from the east bank of the Río Ucayali , 35 km southeast of the provincial and regional capital Pucallpa .

Geographical location

The Masisea District is located in the central east of the Coronel Portillo Province. It is located on the western edge of the Amazon basin east of the Río Ucayali and southeast of the city of Pucallpa. The district is largely congruent with the catchment area of the Río Tamaya , a right tributary of the Río Ucayali. In the southwest of the district is the 1357.37 km² protected area Área de conservación regional Imiría, established on June 15, 2010. This includes a wetland with the lake Laguna Imiría. Ridge ridges with heights of over 450  m run along the eastern and southern district borders .

The Masisea district borders in the extreme southeast on the Yurúa district ( Atalaya province ), in the southwest on the Iparía district , in the northwest on the Honoria ( Puerto Inca province ) and Manantay districts and in the north on the Callería district . In the east, the Masisea district borders the Brazilian state of Acre with the administrative districts of Cruzeiro do Sul , Porto Walter and Marechal Thaumaturgo .
