The Manantay District is located in the Coronel Portillo Province in the Ucayali region in east-central Peru . The district was formed on June 6, 2006 from parts of the Callería district. The Manantay District has an area of ​​approximately 644 km². The 2017 census counted 87,525 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 70,745. The administrative seat of the district is the 150  m high city of San Fernando with 85,540 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Fernando is a southern suburb of the provincial and regional capital Pucallpa .

Geographical location

The Manantay district is located in the west of the Coronel Portillo province. It is located on the western edge of the Amazon basin west of the Río Ucayali and south of the city of Pucallpa. The north-south extension is 40 km, the maximum east-west extension 37 km. In the south the district extends a few meters from the mouth of the Río Pachitea . In the south there is a largely uninhabited swamp area. The population is concentrated in the Pucallpa metropolitan area in the far north of the district.

The Manantay district borders in the southwest with the Honoria district ( Puerto Inca province ), in the west with the Campoverde district , in the north with the Callería district and in the east with the Masisea district .
