The Nueva Requena district is located in the Coronel Portillo Province in the Ucayali region in east-central Peru . The district was formed on September 14, 1994 from the northern part of the Campoverde district. The Nueva Requena district has an area of ​​approximately 2062 km². The 2017 census counted 5169 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 5122. The administrative seat of the district is the 153  m high small town Nueva Requena with 2489 inhabitants (as of 2017). Nueva Requena is located on a southern arm of the Río Aguaytía 35 km west-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Pucallpa . A road leads south from Nueva Requena to Campoverde, 18 km away .

Geographical location

The Nueva Requena district is located in the northwest of the Coronel Portillo Province. It is located on the western edge of the Amazon basin west of the Río Ucayali . The Río Aguaytía crosses the east of the district and flows into the Río Ucayali in the far east of the district. The Río Juantia, a left tributary of the Río Aguaytía, flows through to the west of the district. Most of the rainforest in the area has been cleared. Various agricultural products are grown.

The Nueva Requena district borders in the south on the districts Campoverde and Curimaná ( province Padre Abad ), in the far west on the district Contamana , in the north on the district Padre Márquez (both districts mentioned above are in the province Ucayali , region Loreto ) and in East to the Callería and Yarinacocha districts .
