The Ambo Province is one of eleven provinces in the Huánuco Department in central Peru . The province has an area of 1581 km². In the 2017 census, the population was 50,880. In 1993 the population was 55,942, in 2007 it was 55,483. The capital of the province is Ambo .
Geographical location
The province of Ambo is located south of the regional capital Huánuco . The Río Huallaga flows through the province over a length of 45 km in a northerly direction and divides the province into a western and an eastern part. The west of the province is traversed by the Río Huertas and borders on the neighboring province of Lauricocha . In the southeast of the province lies the river valley of the Río Blanco . The main ridge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera forms the eastern provincial border.
