The Río Pozuzo is a 95 km long left tributary of the Río Palcazú in eastern central Peru in the provinces of Oxapampa ( Pasco region ) and Puerto Inca ( Huánuco region ).
River course
The Río Pozuzo arises 4 km north of the small town Pozuzo at an altitude of about 700 m at the confluence of the Río Santa Cruz (left) and Río Huancabamba (right). The Río Pozuzo initially flows north. Between river kilometers 85 and 10, the river runs within the province of Puerto Inca. At river kilometer 48, 5 km west of the town of Codo del Pozuzo , the Río Pozuzo makes a sharp right turn and then flows towards east-southeast. Later it flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the Vorandine region. The Pozuzo finally meets one kilometer east of the settlement of Puerto Mairo and 25 km west-southwest of the city of Ciudad Constitución on the Río Palcazú coming from the south, which then turns to the east.
Catchment area
The approx. 5900 km² catchment area of the Río Pozuzo extends over the provinces of Oxapampa (in the south and east), Pachitea (in the west) and Puerto Inca (in the north). In the west, the Cordillera Huaguruncho , part of the Peruvian Central Cordillera , forms the watershed to the Río Huallaga . Further south is the catchment area of the Río Perené , further east that of the upper reaches of the Río Palcazú and further north that of the Río Aguaytía .
