Alexander Ivanovich Samoshkin

Alexander Ivanovich Samoschkin ( Russian Александр Иванович Замошкин ; born September 5, 1899 in Moscow , † May 28, 1977 ) was a Russian artist , author and museum director.

Life

From 1941 to 1951 Samoshkin was the museum director of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow . During World War II he directed the evacuation and removal of the paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery. As the successor to Nikolai Slonevski , he was director of the Pushkin Museum in Moscow from 1954 to 1961 . He was succeeded as museum director by Irina Alexandrovna Antonova in 1961 .

Samoshkin was married. His son was the philosopher and sociologist Yuri Alexandrowitsch Samoschkin (1927-1993).
