The Río Perené is the 165 km (including headwaters: 294 km) long left headwaters of the Río Tambo in the administrative region of Junín in central Peru . It belongs to the river system of the Río Ucayali , the right source river of the Amazon .
River course
The Río Perené arises at an altitude of about 650 m at the confluence of the Río Chanchamayo (right) and Río Paucartambo (left). It flows mainly in an easterly direction through the Peruvian Central Cordillera . He passes the cities of Perené and Pichanaqui as well as the settlements of Yurinaki and Puerto Ocopa . The rivers Quebrada Ubiriqui and Río Avotrique from the left and Río Huatziroqui , Río Pichanaqui , Río Ipoqui and Río Pangoa flow into it from the right. Finally, at Puerto Prado, at an altitude of 305 m, it meets the Río Ene coming from the south , with which it joins the Río Tambo. The national road 5S to Satipo runs for the upper 65 kilometers of the river along the southern bank of the river.
Hydrology
The Río Perené drains a 20,550 km² area of the Central Cordillera to the east. The source rivers of the Río Perené arise in the glaciated mountain ranges Cordillera Huaguruncho and Cordillera Huaytapallana . In the north the catchment area of the Río Perené borders on that of the Río Pachitea , in the west and south on that of the Río Mantaro . The mean discharge of the Río Perené is 602 m³ / s.
