The district of San Pablo de Pillao is located in the province of Huánuco in the Huánuco region of central Peru . The district was formed on December 8, 2015 from parts of the Chinchao district. It has an area of ​​about 585 km². In 2017 the population was 8,350. The administrative seat of the district is the small town of San Pablo de Pillao , at an altitude of 3,162  m north of the river valley of the Río Huallaga . San Pablo de Pillao is located about 32 km east-northeast of the regional capital Huánuco and had 1,182 inhabitants at the 2017 census. Near the village Huanacaure in the central south of the district, the archaeological course is Huanacaure from pre-Columbian times.

Geographical location

The district of San Pablo de Pillao is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . It comprises a mountain range up to 3600  m high, which is surrounded by the Río Huallaga in the south and east. The district of San Pablo de Pillao borders in the west, north and northeast on the district Chinchao, in the southeast on the district Chaglla ( province Pachitea ) and in the southwest on the district Umari (also in the province Pachitea).
