The Chinchao District is located in the Huánuco Province in the Huánuco Region in central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​1248 km². In 2017 the population was 13,135. The administrative seat of the district is the small town of Acomayo , located at an altitude of 2110  m in a left side valley of the Río Huallaga . Acomayo is located about 23 km northeast of the regional capital Huánuco and had inhabitants in the 2017 2012 census. The originally central southern part of the district was detached on December 8, 2017 and has since formed the San Pablo de Pillao district . The national road 18A from Huánuco to Tingo María crosses the district.

Geographical location

The Chinchao district is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The river Río Huallaga forms the southern district boundary in the southwest. It also flows through the northeastern part of the district in a northerly direction. The Chinchao district borders on the Churubamba district in the west, the Marías district ( Dos de Mayo province ) in the northwest, the Mariano Dámaso Beraun district ( Leoncio Prado province ) in the north, and the Daniel Alomía Robles districts (also Leoncio province ) in the east Prado) and Chaglla ( province of Pachitea ) and in the south to the districts of San Pablo de Pillao and Umari (the latter in the province of Pachitea).
