The province of Asunción is one of the 20 provinces that make up the Ancash administrative region in Peru . In 2017, 7,378 people lived in the 528.66 km² area. In 1993 the population was 9846, in 2007 it was 9054. The administrative center is Chacas .
Geographical location
The province of Asunción is located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Blanca , which is a glaciated mountain ridge of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . On the western province border, which rises 6,395 meters high Huantsán . The provincial area extends over the catchment area of the Río Acochaca , a tributary of the Río Yanamayo . The province of Asunción borders in the north with the province Yungay , in the northeast with the province Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald , in the southeast with the province Huari and in the west with the province Carhuaz .
