The district of San Pedro de Chaná is located in the province of Huari in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on June 10, 1955. It has an area of ​​144 km². The 2017 census counted 2663 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2472, in 2007 it was 2668. The district administration is located in the 3413  m high village of San Pedro de Chaná with 787 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro de Chaná (or Chaná for short) is located just 19 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Huari .

Geographical location

The district of San Pedro de Chaná is located in the east of the province of Huari. The Río Colca, right tributary of the Río Puchca , drains the area to the north.

The district of San Pedro de Chaná is bordered to the west by the districts of San Marcos and Huachis , to the north by the district of Pontó , to the east by the districts of Miraflores , Puños and Llata (all three in the province of Huamalíes ).
