The Pontó district is located in the Huari Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on It has an area of ​​119 km². The 2017 census counted 2840 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3769, in 2007 it was 3472. The district administration is located in the 3140  m high village of Pontó with 578 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pontó is located 18 km east of the provincial capital Huari .

Geographical location

The Pontó district is centrally located in the Huari Province. The Río Puchca flows northeast along the northwestern district boundary .

The district Ponto bordered to the south by the district of San Pedro de Chana , the west by the district Huachis , in the northwest to the districts Rahuapampa , Masin , Cajay and Aczo ( Antonio Raymondi Province ), on the east by the district Huacachi and on the southeast by the Miraflores District ( Huamalíes Province ).
