The Huachis District is located in the Huari Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​152 km². The 2017 census counted 3589 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4343, in 2007 3758. The district administration is located in the 3268  m high village of Huachis with 1004 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huachis is located 10 km southeast of the provincial capital Huari .

Geographical location

The Huachis District is located in the southwest of the Huari Province. The Río Mosna and Río Puchca rivers flow north along the western and northwestern district boundaries . The Río Colca, right tributary of the Río Puchca, flows north along the eastern district boundary.

The Huachis district bordered to the south and southwest of the district of San Marcos , on the west by District Huari , on the north by the districts Masin and Rahuapampa and on the east by the districts Ponto and San Pedro de Chana .
