The Río Puchca is a 48 km (including Río Mosna: 106 km) long left tributary of the Río Marañón , left headwaters of the Amazon , in Peru . The Río Puchca flows through the provinces of Huari and Antonio Raymondi in the east of the administrative region of Ancash .

River course

The Río Puchca runs on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It arises 6 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Huari at an altitude of about 2600  m at the confluence of the Río Huari (left) and Río Mosna (right). The latter is the main source of the Río Puchca. The two source rivers drain the east side of the glaciated Cordillera Blanca . The Río Puchca flows in a predominantly north-northeast direction through the mountains. At river kilometer 42 the river passes the district administration center Masin . At river kilometer 33, the Río Colca meets the Río Puchca from the right. This finally flows into the Río Marañón at the border between the administrative regions of Ancash and Huánuco .

Catchment area

The Río Puchca drains an area of ​​about 2740 km². Further south, which runs Río Vizcarra (also Urqumayu ) north of Rio Yanamayo .

Others

There are plans for a 140 MW hydropower plant on the Río Puchca.
