The Rapayán District is located in the Huari Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district was established on September 16, 1956. It has an area of 145 km². The 2017 census counted 1501 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1770, in 2007 it was 1752. The district administration is located in the village of Rapayán at an altitude of 3238 m with 700 inhabitants (as of 2017). Rapayán is just under 50 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huari .
Geographical location
The district of Rapayán is located on the left bank of the Río Marañón, which flows north-northwest, in the far east of the province of Huari.
The district of Rapayán borders in the southwest on the district Singa ( province Huamalíes ), in the northwest on the district Huacchis and in the east on the districts Arancay , Jircan and Tantamayo (all three in the province Huamalíes) and in the extreme south on the district Chavin de Pariarca (also in the province of Huamalíes).
