The Chiquián District is located in the Bolognesi Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district has an area of ​​186 km². The 2017 census counted 4060 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4758, in 2007 it was 4087. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Chiquián at 3374  m with 3523 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of Chiquián is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the center of the Bolognesi province. The Río Pativilca flows south along the eastern district boundary and drains much of the district. The extreme west of the district is located in the upper catchment area of Lake Laguna Conococha in the headwaters of the Río Santa .

The district of Chiquián borders in the northwest on the district Cátac ( province Recuay ), in the north on the district Aquia , in the east on the districts Huasta and Pacllón , in the southeast on the district La Primavera , in the southwest on the districts Abelardo Pardo Lezameta and Ticllos as well to the west to the district of Cajacay .
