The Huasta district is located in the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on January 28, 1863. It has an area of ​​390 km². The 2017 census counted 1504 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2178, in 2007 it was 2425. The district administration is located in the 3385  m high village of Huasta with 502 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huasta is located 3 km northeast of the provincial capital Chiquián .

Geographical location

The Huasta district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the east of the Bolognesi province. The Río Pativilca flows south along the western district boundary and drains the area. In the east, the district extends to the continental divide .

The Huasta district is bordered to the west by the district Chiquián , in the northwest on the district Aquia , in the northeast on the district Huallanca , in the southeast of the district Queropalca ( Lauricocha Province ) and in the south by the district Pacllón .
