The district of Sayán is located in the province of Huaura in the north of the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district was founded on February 12, 1857. It has an area of 1310.77 km². In the 2017 census, 23,408 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 18,395, in 2007 21,962. The administrative center is the 685 m high town Sayán with 4422 inhabitants (as of 2017). Other larger towns in the district are Andahuasi (2931 inhabitants), Diecisiete de Enero (869 inhabitants), Don Alberto (845 inhabitants), La Merced (944 inhabitants), La Villa (3913 inhabitants) and Nuevo Octobre (2662 inhabitants).
Geographical location
The Sayán District is centrally located in the Huaura Province. It extends over the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Huaura River flows through the district in a westerly direction. The landscape is mostly desert. Irrigated agriculture takes place along the rivers.
The district of Sayán is bordered to the southwest by the district of Huacho , to the west by the districts of Santa María and Huaura , to the north by the districts of Ámbar and Cochamarca (the latter in the province of Oyón ), to the east by the districts of Leoncio Prado and Ihuarí (the latter in the Huaral Province ) and in the south to the Huaral District (also in the Huaral Province).
