The district of Cochamarca is located in the province of Oyón in the Lima region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​258 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,086 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1336, in 2007 it was 1490. The district administration is located in the 3452  m high village of Cochamarca with 378 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cochamarca is located 45 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Oyón .

Geographical location

The district of Cochamarca is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the west of the province of Oyón. The district is located on the right bank of the Río Huaura, which flows to the southwest . Its right tributary Río Yarucaya drains the area to the south.

The district of Cochamarca borders in the west and in the north on the district Ámbar ( province Huaura ), in the east on the district Naván , in the extreme southeast on the district Paccho (province Huaura) and in the south on the district Sayán (province Huaura).
