The Ihuarí district is located in the province of Huaral in Region Lima in Peru . The district was founded on February 12, 1821. It has an area of ​​474 km². The 2017 census counted 2253 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3235, in 2007 it was 2671. The administrative seat is the 2822  m high village of Ihuarí with 456 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ihuarí is 44 km northeast of the provincial capital Huaral .

Geographical location

The district of Ihuarí is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north of the Huaral province. The northwest is drained via the Río Chica to the Río Huaura . The extreme east and south belong to the catchment area of the Río Chancay . In the extreme south, the district extends to the Río Chancay.

The district Ihuarí bordered on the southwest by the District Huaral , to the west by the district Sayán ( huaura province ), on the north by the district Leoncio Prado (also in the province of Huaura), to the east by the districts Veintisiete de Noviembre and Lampián and in the extreme South to the district of Sumbilca .
