Huaral is the capital of the Huaral Province of the South American Andean state of Peru . It is located in the district of the same name .
Huaral is located about 60 km north of Lima on the PE1NB ( Panamericana ) road and 15 km southeast of the 5070 hectare Lomas de Lachay National Reserve (Spanish Reserva nacional de Lachay ). In the 2017 census, 79,455 people lived in the city. In 2007 the population was 70,862. Jaime Cirilo Uribe Ochoa is the incumbent mayor of the city. The municipal football club Unión Huaral has played in the Segunda División del Perú , the second highest Peruvian league , since 2014 .

In May 2010 the Peruvian Ministry of Justice announced that the first privately owned Peruvian prison with 1,500 prisoners would be built in Huaral. Huaral Province was hit by an earthquake on August 4, 2010 . The quake had a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale.
