The Pacaraos district is located in the province of Huaral in Region Lima in Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 306 km². The 2017 census counted 1136 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1601, in 2007 it was 747. The administrative seat is the 3331 m high village Pacaraos with 355 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pacaraos is located 70 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huaral .
Geographical location
The Pacaraos district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the Huaral Province. The district is bounded in the east and south by the Río Chancay . Its headwaters are located in the extreme northeast of the district. In the northeast the main ridge of the Western Cordillera runs with the continental divide . The watershed runs further west to the catchment area of the Río Huaura further north .
The Pacaraos district is bordered to the west by the Veintisiete de Noviembre district , to the north by the Santa Leonor district ( Huaura province ), to the northeast by the Huayllay district ( Pasco province ), to the east by the Santa Cruz de Andamarca district and to the south by the Atavillos Alto district .
