The district of Checras is located in the province of Huaura in the Lima region of western Peru . It has an area of ​​167 km². The 2017 census counted 1011 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1071, in 2007 it was 1492. The district administration is located in the 3743  m high village of Maray with 178 inhabitants (as of 2017). Maray is about 90 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huacho .

Geographical location

The district of Checras is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the east of the province of Huaura. In the northwest the Río Huaura , in the northeast its left tributary Río Checras forms the district boundary.

The district of Checras borders in the south with the district Leoncio Prado , in the southwest with the district Paccho , in the northwest with the districts Caujul and Andajes ( province Oyón ), in the northeast with the district Pachangara (also in the province Oyón) and in the east with the Santa Leonor District .
