The district of San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán is located in the province of Pasco in the Pasco region in central Peru . The district was founded on September 16, 1961 and has an area of 120 km². The 2017 census counted 4746 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 12,481, in 2007 11,209. The district administration is located in the 3770 m high village of Yarusyacán with 505 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yarusyacán is located about 22 km north-northeast of the provincial and regional capital Cerro de Pasco .
Geographical location
The district of San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the northwestern province of Pasco. It has a longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE direction of 23 km and a maximum width of 7 km. The Río Huallaga flows north along the northeastern district boundary. The upper reaches of the Río Tingo, left tributary of the Río Huallaga, crosses the district in a northerly direction.
The district of San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán borders in the southwest with the district Simón Bolívar , in the northwest with the district Santa Ana de Tusi ( province Daniel Alcides Carrión ), in the northeast with the districts Huariaca and Ticlacayán and in the east and south with the district Yanacancha .
