Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (born July 26, 1983 in Paris ) is a French actress , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre was born in Paris in 1983. Her ancestors include Jean-Baptiste Colbert , Philippe II, Duke of Orléans and his lover Christine Charlotte Desmares, an actress from a theater family. Philippe II was a nephew of Louis XIV and a descendant of James I , King of England, Scotland and Ireland.

After completing her Masters in History at the Sorbonne, she moved to New York. Here she shot two short films, Atlantic Avenue and Rabbit , which have been presented and awarded at several international festivals such as the Tribeca Film Festival. In The Mustang with Matthias Schoenaerts in the lead role, which she in January 2019 as part of the film festival Sundance imagined, is her directorial debut with a feature film. She developed the film project as part of the Sundance Institute's 2015 January Screenwriters Lab and revised her short film Rabbit from 2014, in which an imprisoned woman receives a rabbit as a therapy animal. De Clermont-Tonnerre expanded the basic story in The Mustang by choosing a horse, an animal that is firmly anchored in American mythology. The film received very good reviews.

Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre lives and works in Paris and New York.
