Elke is a punk song by the band Die Ärzte . It's the seventh track from their 1988 album That's Not The Whole Truth… .

Text and music

The text of the song was inspired by an overweight fan and contains a fictional love story between Farin Urlaub and the fan. The song has a musical peculiarity, as the first verse is sung slowly and the song then goes very abruptly into the chorus and with it faster song progresses.

Publication and reception

Elke became a song that was often played live in the doctors' repertoire, as the recording of the live version from 1988 on Das Beste von kurz nach Kurz bis nowze and the 1999 single shows. The single reached number 28 in the German charts and was placed for three weeks.

Music video

The video is animated and shows the band live while the figure of a gigantic female fan “attacks” band members with air kisses and the like. They fight back until the attacker hits the ground. It turns out that she is still alive and outraged. The fan is eventually killed with a tank.
