Neukenroth is a part of the municipality of Stockheim in the district of Kronach , into which it was incorporated on January 1, 1975. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1335 as "Neikenroda".

geography

Neukenroth is centrally located in the Kronach district near the Thuringian-Bavarian border in the Franconian Forest Nature Park . The Beer and Castle Road runs through the village . The Haßlach flows through the village and separates the eastern part, in the dialect "Beidlgries", from the rest of the village.

Neukenroth has around 908 inhabitants; the majority is Catholic. Neukenroth has a lively club life. Worth mentioning are the parish church of St. Katharina and the 800-person Zecherhalle.

Neighboring towns are Welitsch and Pressig in the north, Grössau in the east, Stockheim in the south and Gessendorf in Thuringia in the west .

history

In a major fire on December 3, 1906, the school building, the theater and seven barns and their outbuildings were destroyed. The fire threatened to spread to the nearby parish church of St. Katharina, but this was prevented by the local volunteer fire brigade and the defenses of the surrounding communities and the city of Kronach. The fire was triggered by the arson of two young men who had previously been denied free access to the village theater; both were later sentenced to several years in prison. The sandstones from the burned down schoolhouse were used to build the morgue, and the Neukenroth students were taught in two local restaurants until a new schoolhouse was completed.

On January 1, 1975 Neukenroth was incorporated into the Stockheim community.

On May 19, 2007, the second federal party conference of the Pirate Party took place in Neukenroth .

Infrastructure

Neukenroth is on federal highway 85 , which runs right through the town, and on a double-track railway line ( Frankenwaldbahn , Kursbuchlinie 840), which runs largely parallel to the main road, in the local area well to the west of it.
