The administrative community was founded on January 1st, 1997.

As of December 31, 2019, the administrative community has merged with the administrative community Gramme-Aue to form the administrative community Gramme-Vippach based in Schloßvippach in accordance with the “Thuringian law on the voluntary reorganization of municipalities belonging to the district in 2019” .
