The administrative community was founded on September 10, 1994.

As of December 31, 2019, the administrative community has merged with the administrative community An der Marke to form the administrative community Gramme-Vippach , based in Schloßvippach , in accordance with the “Thuringian law on the voluntary reorganization of municipalities belonging to the district in 2019” .
