history

Windheim was first mentioned in 1187 as Winthagin and initially belonged to the Langheim monastery , later to the Bamberg monastery .

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 60 properties in Windheim (5 estates, 3 two-thirds estates, 3 semi-estates, 14 thirds estates, 5 sixths estates, 23 drip houses , 6 houses, 1 grinding mill). The high court was exercised by the Bamberg center Teuschnitz . The Teuschnitz caste office held the village and community rulership as well as the lordship over all properties . In addition to the property, there was also 1 parish church, 1 parsonage, 1 community pastoral house and brewery, as well as 4 third estates that were uninhabited.

As a result of secularization , the place became part of Bavaria in 1803. With the municipal edict of 1808, the tax district Windheim was formed, to which Kohlmühle , Steinbach am Wald and Steinbachermühle belonged. With the second community edict (1818) the rural community Windheim was formed. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Teuschnitz district court and in financial management to the Rothenkirchen Rent Office ( renamed the Rothenkirchen Tax Office in 1919 ). In 1837 Windheim was transferred to the Ludwigsstadt district court . From 1862 to 1880 and from 1888 to 1931 Windheim was administered by the Teuschnitz district office, from 1880 to 1888 and from 1931 by the Kronach district office (renamed the Kronach district in 1939 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Ludwigsstadt until 1879, from 1879 district court Ludwigsstadt , which in 1956 became a branch of the district court Kronach . The financial management was taken over in 1929 by the Kronach tax office . The municipality had an area of 7.530 km².

On May 1, 1978 Windheim was incorporated into Steinbach am Wald.
