Heinz Köhler (2010)

Heinz Köhler (born May 12, 1942 in Mitwitz ) is a German SPD politician .

Heinz Köhler graduated from high school in Coburg in 1963. After studying law and economics in Würzburg and Munich, he received his doctorate in 1970. After a brief period as a member of the government of Upper Franconia , he was District Administrator of Kronach from 1972 to 1989 , District Councilor from 1974 to 1986, and from 1989 to 1994 Member of the European Parliament Parliament , from 1994 to 2002 member of the Bavarian State Parliament and from 2002 to 2005 a member of the German Bundestag . Since he has not fully recovered from a stroke he suffered in 2003, which also affected his language center, he did not run for the 16th German Bundestag.

From 1999 to 2003 he was President of the Bavarian Red Cross . Since 1975 he has been chairman of the FWO (long-distance water supply Upper Franconia). He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and 1st Class, the Monument Protection and European Medal of the Free State of Bavaria, the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Grand Medal of Merit of the District of Kronach in gold.

Heinz Köhler is an Evangelical Lutheran, married and has two children.

He is an honorary citizen of the communities Mitwitz and Steinbach am Wald.
