Helmut Schirrmacher

Helmut Schirrmacher (born May 6, 1923 in Elbing , West Prussia ; † May 11, 2009 in Bielefeld ) was Federal Chairman of the Police Union (GdP) from 1975 to 1981 and then President of the Police in Bielefeld.

Helmut Schirrmacher joined the police service in 1947 and was one of the founding members of the GdP in Lower Saxony. After serving on the board of the GdP, he became state chairman in Lower Saxony in 1969. From 1970 to 1975 he was deputy chairman of the GdP at the federal level until he was elected chairman at the federal congress in 1975. In 1981 he resigned from this office as he was appointed police chief of Bielefeld. His successor in the office of federal chairman was Günter Schröder .

Schirrmacher was an SPD member and holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
