Hermann Lutz (born April 3, 1938 in Erfurt ) was a police officer and federal chairman of the police union from 1986 to 1998. He was replaced by Norbert Spinrath in this function. Hermann Lutz is a CDU member.

Hermann Lutz was born in Erfurt and grew up in Hessen . In 1957, the then competitive athlete joined the police. The service in the riot police was followed by individual service in Koblenz from 1963 . The visit of the night school to high school level enabled him in 1966 training as Commissioner ; In addition, Lutz obtained an administrative diploma in 1972. In 1974 he became a police advisor and later taught political science at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences for Administration in the "Police" department .

Lutz has been involved in trade unions since 1958. At the police union (GdP) he worked first at the district level, then from 1974 on at the state level, first as chairman of the “Protection Police” committee, then as district chairman of Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1981 he became deputy to GdP federal chairman Günter Schröder , and in 1986 Lutz was elected Schröder's successor. Lutz, who remained chairman of the GdP until 1998, was the first federal chairman of an individual union with a CDU party membership, which was viewed with suspicion in some union circles.

During his tenure as GdP federal chairman, the safety and working conditions of the police officers were very important to him. For example, he criticized the high burden on the officers, called for an increase in staff and better technical equipment for the police service. In addition to his work as Federal Chairman, Lutz also took over the office of President of the International Union of Police Unions from 1989 to 2003.
