The Škoda 706 MT was a truck made by the Czechoslovak commercial vehicle manufacturer LIAZ . It originated from the Škoda 706 RT truck . From 1984 it was also marketed under the brand name Liaz .

The ladder frame of the Škoda 706 RT remained unchanged. The cab was again designed as a forward control . It could not be tilted, access to the engine was made via flaps. Externally, the Škoda 706 MT can only be distinguished from its predecessor by the cover of the cooling water inlet and the decoration of the radiator grille. The M634 was used as the engine. As in the previous model, it is a six-cylinder diesel engine with direct injection. The displacement was increased slightly to 11.94 l and the output increased to 200 hp. The drive unit was completed by a single-disc dry clutch and a synchronized five-speed gearbox with a split group, which resulted in 10 forward and 2 reverse gears. The engine was positioned in the chassis above the front axle. The rear axle was driven by a two-part cardan shaft. Instead of the previous differential, this time an external planetary gear was used, and some of the rear axles were obtained from the Hungarian manufacturer Rába . Used came leaf-sprung solid axle with lever shock absorbers . The vehicle was decelerated with pneumatically actuated brakes on all wheels, which were supported by an engine brake . There was also a mechanical parking brake. The truck had an automatic, load-dependent brake on the rear axle. The steering was a hydraulic power steering with pneumatic assistance. With a vehicle mass of around 6 to 7 t, depending on the version, the permissible total mass was around 16 t.

Various bodies were manufactured for the vehicle, for which the wheelbase of the chassis was adapted. Three-way tippers , flatbed trucks and tractor units were widespread , but also special bodies such as garbage trucks , blasting trucks and fire trucks . The driver's cab for the flatbed trucks, tractors and some special bodies was extended and had four seats. The vehicle was imported into the GDR from 1969 .

The Škoda 706 MT was replaced by the LIAZ 100 from 1977, but chassis for special bodies were still produced until 1987.
