William B. Bowling

William Bismarck Bowling (born September 24, 1870 in Iron City , Calhoun County , Alabama , † December 27, 1946 in La Fayette , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

William Bowling attended community school and graduated from Jacksonville State Normal School in 1892 . He taught from 1893 to 1895 in public schools in Montgomery and then from 1896 to 1899 in Columbus ( Georgia ). Then he moved to La Fayette. He studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1900 and then began practicing in Lafayette. Bowling served as a solicitor in the 5th Judicial District of Alabama between 1905 and 1920 . He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn .

Bowling was elected to the 66th Congress to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of James Thomas Heflin . He was re-elected to the 67th Congress and the three subsequent Congresses . Bowling was a member of the US House of Representatives from December 14, 1920 until his resignation on August 16, 1928. At that time, he was appointed a judge in the Alabama 5th District Judge. He held this post until his death in 1946.

Bowling was buried in Lafayette Cemetery .
