Lilius Bratton Rainey (born July 27, 1876 in Dadeville , Tallapoosa County , Alabama , † September 27, 1959 in Gadsden , Etowah County , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Lilius Bratton Rainey attended community school and then moved to Fort Payne, Alabama. He graduated from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn in 1899 and from the Law Department of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1902 . He was admitted to the bar last year and then started practicing in Gadsden, Alabama. Rainey also pursued a military and political career. He was elected captain in the Alabama National Guard in 1903 and re-elected in 1906. The following year he resigned from his command. Between 1911 and 1917 he worked as a solicitor in Gadsden.

Rainey was elected to the 66th Congress to fill the vacancy created by the death of John L. Burnett . He was re-elected to the 67th US Congress . Rainey decided against running for the 68th US Congress in 1922 . He served in the US House of Representatives from September 30, 1919 to March 3, 1923. He was also a curator at the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery . He then went back to his practice as a lawyer until his death in Gadsden in 1959. He was buried in Glenwood Cemetery , Fort Payne.
