Peter Myndert Dox

Peter Myndert Dox (born September 11, 1813 in Geneva , Ontario County , New York , † April 2, 1891 in Huntsville , Madison County , Alabama ) was an American lawyer, judge and politician ( Democratic Party ). He was the grandson of US MP John Nicholas .

Career

Peter Myndert Dox attended Geneva Academy and graduated from Hobart College in Geneva in 1833 . He studied law , was admitted to the bar, and then started practicing in Geneva. Dox also had a political career. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1842 . He was then from November 1855 until his resignation on March 18, 1856 judge at the Ontario County Court. He then moved to Alabama in the same year, where he settled in Madison County. There he pursued agricultural activities. He also took part in 1865 as a delegate to the Constituent Assembly of Alabama. Dox was then elected to the 41st US Congress and re - elected to the subsequent 42nd US Congress . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1873. Then he retired from public life. He died in Huntsville, Alabama in 1891 and was buried there in Maple Hill Cemetery .
