John Nicholas

John Nicholas (born January 19, 1764 in Williamsburg , Colony of Virginia , † December 31, 1819 in Geneva , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . He was the brother of Wilson Cary Nicholas and the uncle of Robert Carter Nicholas , both US Senators .

Career

John Nicholas attended community school and then graduated from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg. He studied law and practiced as a lawyer in his home county after receiving his license. He was later elected as an anti-administration candidate in the 3rd US Congress and re - elected as the Democratic Republican in the three subsequent US Congresses . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1793 to March 3, 1801. He then moved to Geneva (New York). There he was a member of the New York Senate between 1806 and 1809 . He was also a judge between 1806 and 1819Court of Common Pleas . In addition, he pursued agricultural activities. He died in Geneva in 1819 and was buried there in Glenwood Cemetery .
