William Milnes

William Milnes Jr. (born December 8, 1827 in Yorkshire , England , †  August 14, 1889 in Shenandoah , Virginia ) was an American politician . In 1870 and 1871 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1829 William Milnes came with his parents to the United States, where the family settled in Pottsville ( Pennsylvania ). He attended the public schools in his new home and then completed an apprenticeship as a machinist. He later worked in the mining and coal businesses. From 1865 Milnes lived in Shenandoah, where he worked in the iron industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the short-lived Conservative Party . In 1870 he was elected to the Virginia House of Representatives.

After Virginia was re-admitted to the Union, Milnes was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of his state , where he took up his new mandate on January 27, 1870. By March 3, 1871, he was able to end the current legislative period in Congress . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Milnes worked again in the iron industry. He died in Shenandoah on August 14, 1889.
